Our Lady of the Kitchen Towel is playful title and suggests the idea that sacredness can be found in everyday household items. The folds and draping of the cloth may allude to an apparition of Mary and her hooded cloak. The work sees the animate in the inanimate.
Stilweg Stil (closest translation: Quietly or Silently Still) is an introspective work. Like most of my work, the painting is a meditation of the cyclical nature of life-death-life. She cradles a bundle of bones in her lap. It is an acknowledgment of her connection to nature and the impermanence of life. It is a memento mori.
