Exhibition April 2023 - "As We Were"

Artist Statement:

"I hope that my sculptures of little people evoke nostalgia in inviting us back into our memories of our early selves and that capture some essence of the children who are closest to us.

These sculptures are reflections of expeditions, secret hideouts, beach holidays, the inventing of private games, and the excitement of the elements in a world where everything is new and exciting.

I attempt to convey the fresh and uninhibited attitude with which they try to make sense of this adult world.

I feel an exuberance in rediscovering my early life through them. My mind is washed clear as they come alive in physique and attitude, drawing me into an almost forgotten world of delight, of joy, and mostly of lyrical happiness.

To me the sense of place is important, and through their gaze and expression, I try to conjure up a landscape or a seascape, and a perspective where the light, the flickering sea, a deep rockpool, the warm beach sand, and the sun’s rays are felt outside of the physical subject and become intrinsically part of it."
