PRESS RELEASE
SITE - GREG SCHULTZ

“I have been privileged to experience, engage, and explore our indescribably beautiful forests, estuaries, and oceans. These spaces include new 'territory' to the south, from the Tsitsikamma to the Wilderness. The paintings are site-specific and the actual place is recognizable.
These paintings are expressions of my love of water and the land. Growing up on the coast, immersed in the ocean and rivers, and later living on the Kwelera River, surrounded by untamed nature, has made me aware of nature's elemental vitality, so indivisible from our physical and spiritual existence.
'Compositional devices', which I call 'question marks' are experimental and are utilized in red geometric shapes or lines. Other paintings include flying insects, birds, or GPS coordinates to denote the specific place.
It is here, within these spaces, that I seek to capture the essence of 'spirit of place', this evolves and changes as the painting process unfolds.” - Greg Schultz
