SAY IT WITH FLOWERS - LUCINDA MUDGE

Knysna Fine Art presents an exhibition of new ceramic vases and paintings by contemporary South African artist, Lucinda Mudge. This is her third solo exhibition at Knysna Fine Art.

Captivating the eye with her luxuriant glazes and intricate detail, this collection of vases and paintings encompasses all of life, revealing the artist’s witty, outrageous and provocative musings with their contradictions, riddles and yearnings.

“Paintings and ceramics have formed a neat duo in my studio”, says Mudge. “This exhibition was made by focusing my time equally on both mediums.”

Mudge’s paintings are infused with the same kindred vitality and spirit as her vases. Foliage, feathers, birds, abstract shapes and symbols cascade down her canvases or swirl with the dizzying energy of an eddy. They are at once both peaceful and wild, meditative and complex. Themes, images and text are constantly repeated and reshuffled, embodying humanity’s ability to carry contradictory impulses simultaneously.

Lucinda Mudge is a contemporary South African artist working primarily in the medium of ceramics. After graduating from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town (1997-2000), she spent the following years between Cape Town and the UK before moving to Keurboomstrand, where she now lives and works.
